Even before the Lord’s death, He said, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25).
By itself, life can only have existence, but resurrection can withstand any kind of attack, even the attack of death.
Death could not hold Him because He conquered death. Death could not retain Him, not because He was life, but because He was also resurrection.
So after His death, when the two Marys came to the tomb, they were met by an angel of the Lord.
“And the angel answered and said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are seeking Jesus, the crucified. He is not here, for He has been raised, even as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying” (Matt. 28: 5-6).
And His promise to us? “Behold, I am with you all the days until the consummation of the age” (Matt. 28:20). In His resurrection He will be with us all the days, with all authority, until the end of this age.
