God Is Eternally Perfect, But Alone

In Christ’s death 2 substances flowed out of His side.

These substances show what’s needed to produce and build His church.

But coming to Jesus, when they saw that He had already died, they did not break His legs;
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water.
(John 19:34-35)

Blood shows our need of redemption to deal with our sins (John 1:19; Hebrews 9:22).
Water is for the impartation of the divine life. This is what’s crucial in producing and building the church.

God’s intention is not just to deal with our sin and have justified, cleansed, forgiven and redeemed people.

God’s purpose is to make His life available and impart this life into man.

Redemption is not God’s goal. Redemption is for God’s goal.

The goal of redemption is the impartation of God as life into man.

So parallel to the account in John is Genesis 2 where this same fact is seen in figure.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs…
And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made (Hebrew: built) he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
(Gen 2:21-22)

Here Adam is a figure of Christ and Eve of the church (Romans 5:14; Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31-32).

Just as Adam was put into a deep sleep by God, so Christ was put to death on the cross.

Just as a rib was taken out of Adam so Christ was pierced that His divine, eternal, uncreated and indestructible life would be released.

Just as Adam’s rib was used to “build” Eve so Christ’s life is imparted into man that the church, His counterpart, may be built (Matthew 16:18).

Just as only that which came out of Adam became Eve, so only that which comes out of Christ is the church.

Now the eternally perfect God can obtain a counterpart that matches Him.

Thus, the church is not just a group of redeemed people.

Not just those who have been born again.

Not just Christ’s believers.

The church is the counterpart He seeks, produced by His very own life.

The church is just like Him. His match in every way.

Now God can be complete, just as Adam was made complete with Eve.
