The calling of every believer is to come to the living person of Christ, leaving behind all religious forms and dead doctrines. In Christ versus Religion Witness Lee examines the life of Christ in the Gospels. In both word and deed, Jesus astounded and even offended the religionists of His day. When confronted with questions related to religion, politics, and even the interpretation of the Scriptures, He exposed their preoccupation with dead knowledge and pointed people to His living presence.

Christ versus Religion was one of the most influential books that affected my Christian life, both in direction and content. It is also the most controversial book that I have given to my relatives and friends, because it touches the whole sphere of religion, and it compares and contrasts religion with the living and experiential Christ. When I first read this book, it was like dynamite that loosened the spiritual logjam that I was having in my life. Seeing that Christ can be enjoyed on a daily basis caused a big change in my life. This saved me from trying to please God with a living that was pretty good by my standards, but actually without the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. After reading this book, my desire was to forsake everything that was religious, and to begin pursuing Christ and enjoying Him on a daily basis, to realize He is so many wonderful items as presented in the Bible. Hallelujah, for such a Christ that we can enjoy and experience. Gordon Peters
